Tank Remount Services for Canadian Fleets
Giving a Good Tank a Second Chassis
A tank remount transfers an existing tank body from its original chassis onto a different or replacement truck, using a newly engineered subframe suited to the new chassis. Fleets across Canada choose to remount rather than replace when the tank itself still passes inspection and has years of service life left, even if the chassis it was built on doesn’t.
Whether your tank is coming off a written-off truck or you’re simply upgrading to a newer chassis, Dependable Truck & Tank engineers the remount around your tank’s dimensions, weight, and the new truck’s specifications.
What's Involved in a Tank Remount
- Chassis-to-Chassis Transfer: We remove the tank from its original chassis and mount it onto the replacement truck, re-engineering the subframe to match the new chassis dimensions.
- Cross-Brand Remounting: When the new chassis is a different make or model than the original, we redesign the mounting points and subframe to fit correctly.
- Post-Remount Structural Inspection: Every remounted tank is inspected for shell integrity, fittings, and mounting security before it returns to service.
- Recalibration After Remount: Since a remount can shift compartment positioning slightly, we recheck and recalibrate volume readings as part of the job.
- Equipment Transfer: Pumps, reels, and other equipment mounted on the original chassis are transferred and reinstalled on the new one where compatible.
Engineered for Proper Fit and Compliance
A remount isn’t just unbolting a tank and bolting it down again. Every remount we perform accounts for the weight distribution, axle ratings, and structural differences between the old chassis and the new one, so the finished unit meets provincial weight and safety requirements.
Our process includes custom subframe fabrication sized to the new chassis, torque-specified mounting hardware, a full weight distribution check, and B620 inspection readiness once the tank is secured. We won’t remount a tank that fails structural inspection, since a remount is only worth doing on a tank that has real service life left.
When Fleets Choose to Remount
- Chassis Write-Off or Retirement: When a truck is written off or retired but the tank is still sound, remounting saves the cost of building a new tank from scratch.
- Fleet Chassis Upgrades: Fleets upgrading to newer trucks often remount existing tanks rather than replacing units that still meet spec.
- Tank Reallocation: Operators sometimes move tanks between trucks as routes or duty cycles change across the fleet.
- Extending Tank Service Life: A tank in good structural condition can outlast several chassis, and remounting lets fleets get full value from that asset.
What We Check Before and After Every Remount
- Structural inspection of the tank shell before committing to a remount
- Custom subframe engineering matched to the new chassis
- Weight distribution calculations to confirm axle compliance
- Recalibration of volume readings after mounting is complete
- Transfer and reinstallation of pumps, reels, and related equipment
How a Remount Job Moves Through Our Shop

Inspect & Plan
We assess the tank's structural condition and the new chassis specifications to plan the subframe design.

Remove & Remount
Our team removes the tank from the old chassis and mounts it onto the new one with a custom-fabricated subframe.
