CSA B620 Inspection for Tank Trucks & Trailers
Every tank truck hauling dangerous goods in Canada must meet CSA B620, the national standard governing tank construction, testing, and inspection. As a B620 certified facility registered with Transport Canada, we perform B620 inspection work on petroleum, propane, chemical, and food grade units, covering both the 1-year and 5-year testing cycles required to keep your tank legally on the road. Book your B620 inspection below.
What Is CSA B620?
The CSA B620 standard sets out the design, construction, certification, testing, inspection, and periodic retesting requirements for highway tanks and Transport Canada portable tanks used to move dangerous goods. It governs tanker inspection and tank truck inspection work across the country, and only facilities registered with Transport Canada are permitted to inspect, test, repair, or certify tanks under this standard.
Dangerous Goods & TC406 Tanks
Most fuel and petroleum tankers on the road are built to TC406 spec, and every TC406 inspection we perform is completed under CSA B620’s testing requirements. Combined, a TC406 B620 inspection confirms both the tank’s original design compliance and its current mechanical condition, which is what a dangerous goods tank inspection ultimately needs to verify before a unit is cleared to keep hauling.
How CSA B620 Relates to CSA B621
While CSA B620 governs how a tank is built, tested, and inspected, CSA B621 governs which tank type is permitted for which product, covering liquid and solid dangerous goods. The two standards work together: B621 confirms your tank is the right container for your product, and B620 confirms that container is still safe to use. Our team works within both when we inspect or recommend a unit for your fleet.
Propane & Compressed Gas Tankers
A propane tank truck B620 inspection follows the same construction and testing requirements as any other unit under the standard, even though propane and other compressed gases are classified separately for selection-and-use purposes. Regardless of product class, every tank we inspect goes through the same B620 testing rigour before it’s recertified.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is CSA B620?
CSA B620 is Canada’s national standard for the design, construction, testing, and inspection of highway tanks carrying dangerous goods.
What's the difference between CSA B620 and CSA B621?
CSA B620 governs how a tank is built and inspected, while CSA B621 governs which tank type is permitted for a given dangerous goods class.
How often is a B620 inspection required?
Tanks require an annual inspection every year, plus a more thorough B620 five-year inspection covering internal visual, thickness, and hydrostatic testing.
Do TC406 tanks need a separate inspection?
No, a TC406 inspection is completed as part of the standard B620 inspection process, since TC406 tanks are built and tested to CSA B620 requirements.
Can any shop perform a B620 inspection?
No, only facilities registered with Transport Canada, like ours, are authorized to inspect, test, repair, or certify tanks under CSA B620.
Do propane trucks need B620 inspections too?
Yes, a propane tank truck B620 inspection follows the same construction and testing requirements as petroleum, chemical, and water tankers.
